The current status of the inland waters ichthyofauna Iran is revised and updated. A total 292 fish species belong to 3 classes, 24 orders, 36 families 106 genera inhabit Iran. Among these, 29 (9.9%) are exotic 102 (35%) endemic. Orders with largest numbers in Cypriniformes (182 species) followed by Gobiiformes (30 species), Cyprinodontiformes (15 Siluriformes (12 Clupeiformes (10 Acipenseriformes Cichliformes (7 Mugiliformes (6 species). At family level, Cyprinidae has greatest number (74 species; 25.34% Nemacheilidae (47 Leuciscidae (42 Gobiidae Aphaniidae (11 Clupeidae Acipenseridae Cichlidae Sisoridae each) Cobitidae Mugilidae
